81 Year-Old Stoner’s Marijuana Farm Raided In Maharashtra, Man Claims He Didn’t Know It’s Illegal

If you are one of those addicted to weed, you would probably like to hail an 81-year-old man from Maharashtra. Much to the joy of every stoner out there, Indradev Bajgovind, allegedly cultivating cannabis on a huge tract of land in Palghar district, Maharashtra. And no, we are not even kidding.

But wait, before you get too excited.

On Monday, the police raided the farm in Nevale village, Boisar, and Bajgovind, who was growing the plants for personal consumption, has been arrested. That is because, marijuana is illegal in the country. After getting the lead from an anonymous source, found nearly 200 plants in the field and seized 905 gm marijuana. According to TOI, an officer said,

“The owner of the land had commissioned the construction of an ashram there and had given the task of running it to Bajgovind. The construction is underway and the accused began growing marijuana.”

However, here comes the best part. In a statement of his, Bajgovind stated that he was not aware of the fact that cannabis is illegal in India! He has been booked under sections 20(a),8(a)(b)(k) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The police are carrying on their investigations and will now question the landowner.
