Man Gifts New Rickshaw To Heartbroken Rickshawala After His Was Seized By Govt Authorities

Recently, a new drive started in Dhaka, Bangladesh, wherein battery-run vehicles like rickshaws and vans were being taken off the street. According to The Business Standard, the Dhaka South City Corporation has banned battery-powered vehicles as it is believed that they cause road accidents and are against “tradition”.

A humble rickshawala named Fajlur Rahman had to bear the brunt of this. Due to the coronavirus lockdown, he was let go from a shop he earlier worked at. A few days ago, he had taken a loan of Rs 80,000 to buy himself a new battery-powered rickshaw and work as a rickshawala.

However, recently, due to the DSCC’s new drive, his rickshaw was confiscated by authorities and dumped. A video of Rahman crying while his rickshaw was being seized went viral on social media. He also said that he would take his own life.
