Everyday we turn on the television or pick up the newspaper to know about what’s happening all around the globe. And the result is usually depressing as we see various reports on terrorism, some idiotic remarks by politicians and the declining state of our environment. However, sometimes there is a glimmer of hope that gives us some optimism. This time it’s in the form of Jose Martinez.
According to a video posted by the Aurora Police Department, a car caught fire after it hit the cement support for the culvert off the roadway in Illinois, USA.
But before the police could get there, it was Jose Martinez who rushed to get the driver of the car out of harm’s way.
Needless to say, the Aurora Police Department commended Martinez and Devin (another responder) for their gallantry. Their post stated that,
The incident had happened on March 31. But as soon as this video, that has now garnered over 80,000 views, was posted on Facebook on April 4, words of admiration came pouring in.

One of the obvious lessons that we can learn from this incident is that people simply need to stop drinking and driving. If you can’t hold your liquor, don’t take control of the steering wheel and endanger everyone’s lives.
Additionally, the second (and much more important) lesson that we can learn is that we should strive to be as selfless as Jose Martinez and Devin Johnson in real life. Because at the end of the day, the world will become a better place if we help each other out in our times of crisis.
