According to an NDTV news report, a 30-year old US man from Texas, who attended the infamous “COVID party” breathed his last at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio this week. Before passing away, he finally admitted to the nurses, “I think I made a mistake. I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not.” These were his final words.

Dr. Jane Appleby, who is the chief medical officer for the Methodist Hospital came forward and recorded her statement to ABC News about what these COVID parties mean and what they can lead to. “Someone will be diagnosed with the disease, and they’ll have a party to invite their friends over to see if they can beat the disease,” she says. She added, “The thought is people get together to see if the virus is real and if anyone gets infected,” she said.

She informed that her hospital is seeing more coronavirus cases amongst people in their 20s and 30s. “They don’t look really sick. But when you check their oxygen levels and their lab tests, they’re really sicker than they appear.” Giving the example of the Texas patient, she said, “He thought the disease was a hoax. He thought he was young and invincible and wouldn’t get affected by the disease.”

She also spoke about how “the virus doesn’t discriminate” and encouraged people to stay at home as much as possible and never go out without wearing a mask.
