Mamata Banerjee’s Speech On Religion Becomes Meme About Every Scared Indian

As all of us know that Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of West Bengal and she has been so for two tenures. While it doesn’t take a political pundit to assess her rocky career, it does take a meme connoisseur like me to understand her meme quotient. And after a great deal of research, I must say she’s a gold mine in that aspect.

Some of the instances in which Mamata Banerjee sent everyone rolling on the floor with laughter was her homage to football, which involved a headless man. Then it was her meet with Rahul Gandhi, which was an absolute treat. And now she’s back to provide fodder for meme makers with her speech on secularism.

Recently, Mamata Banerjee held the TMC’s annual meet to welcome new members and gave an hour-long speech. However, it was her talk on inclusion that was turned into a meme.

“ma kali, jai bajrang bali, om namah shivaya, ganpati bappa morya, vishnu mata, rokkha kali, jai mata di, santoshi mata, somosthoke amra maani (We Believe In all Of These).”

Like every other politician, Mamata Banerjee united her party members to rise against any kind of opposition that they face. And, as you can see, she invoked the power of all the Gods to set an example about inclusion. But the only thing meme makers could relate to was her sounding like every Indian who’s scared of our country’s current moral police.

Within a matter of hours, Mamata Di became a raging meme, addressing everything from lynching to moral policing.

1. Very timely.

2. Your daily dose of dark humour.

3. Ouch!

4. Every Valentine’s Day ever.

5. That’s absolutely …. correct.

These are tough times for our country and the only way we can get through it is via Mamata Banerjee and dark humour. That said, what kind of relatable scenario do you see in this Didi’s speech? Maybe one where your parents barge in when you’re watching “movies” under the pretext of studies?
