Malala Yousafzai Beautifully Graces The Vogue Cover, Twitter Says ‘Times Are Changing’

Vogue is essentially a fashion and lifestyle magazine. In all my years growing up, I never would have believed that one day, educators, activists, and noble laureates would grace the cover of Vogue, replacing models and actors. But the world is changing and the power of representation is increasing.

Earlier, in what can only be called a groundbreaking occurrence, Former Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja was featured on the cover of Vogue. In another surprise, a tribal woman from MP named Sita Vasuniya was featured in the prestigious magazine. And now, Malala Yousafzai has been featured on the Vogue cover for its July’21 edition!

According to BBC, the 23-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner gave an extensive interview to British Vogue where she opened up about life after graduating from Oxford University.

Malala revealed how she had been enjoying the little things, like playing poker with friends or eating at a fast-food restaurant!

“I was enjoying each and every moment because I had not seen that much before. I had never really been in the company of people my own age,” she said.

Speaking about why she is wearing a headscarf on the cover, she said:

“Muslim girls or Pashtun girls or Pakistani girls, when we follow our traditional dress, we’re considered to be oppressed, or voiceless, or living under patriarchy. I want to tell everyone that you can have your own voice within your culture, and you can have equality in your culture.”

“I know the power that a young girl carries in her heart when she has a vision and a mission,” she says during the interview.

People online were thrilled to see Malala on the British Vogue cover! From calling her an inspiration to lauding the magazine for coming far, here’s how some people reacted:

Indeed, the world is changing! 🙂
