I am not saying that you are not likeable and you need tips to make people like you, but it is always good to know what will make others happy. You are well aware of the basic nice behaviour like smiling, making eye contact etc, but here are some points which can help you create a good first impression or make people like you more.
1. Never be late
Be it for a movie, shopping spree, dinner date or a simple get together; everyone has a special respect for that one person who always shows up on time. It shows that you are sincere and dependable.
2. Dress up the right amount
While all people are not obsessed with clothes and do not fuss over physical appearance, dressing up right ALWAYS helps. It enhances your personality and makes you look good. Do not over-dress for any occasion. Sense the mood and then pick your clothes.
3. Know that you can’t please everyone
When you aim to make people like you, pick the right ones. If you are smart enough, you will be able to point out the stale fruits in the basket.
4. Be an excellent host
If you know how to throw the greatest party in the universe, you don’t need to do anything else. Become their ‘Great Gatsby’ and you are sorted.
5. Learn how to play guitar
It always freaking works. Always! You are the life of all the gatherings, you can make a non-singer sound good and you rock karaoke nights.
6. Learn how to click GOOD pictures
I didn’t mean another wannabe with a DSLR who thinks he is Steve Mccurry because he can shift focus. Learn good photography, because if you can click amazing pictures of your friends, they will always be in awe of you.
7. Own up to your mistakes
Nobody likes a snob. You cannot be always right, so learn to accept it in front of people. It is only going to increase your respect and put you across as extremely honest.
8. Do not say ‘YES’ to everything
It will be obvious that you are trying too hard and you will lose all respect. I am not saying to be arrogant and say no even when you can do something. But, if you are busy or do not have an interest, be blunt and tell them that. Else, people will take you for granted and dump their work on you. Standing your grounds and speaking your mind is an admirable trait.
9. Don’t gossip, at all
It might make people interested in you at that time, but that interest is very short lived. Do not get into that vicious cycle of gossip or else it will be difficult to come out of. A clean person is always praised and admired.
10. Do not push and no fake compliments
They will know when you are genuinely appreciating something and when you are kissing ass. Also, don’t push yourself on them. If they want to be alone and you feel uninvited, leave with your dignity intact.
