People were in for a surprise as Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor announced that they are expecting their first child. Alia took to social media yesterday to break the news. As congratulations poured in from everywhere, one of the family members who has been ecstatic on hearing the news is Mahesh Bhatt, who is about to become a grandfather.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Mahesh Bhatt claimed that the role of a grandfather is “challenging”, even though it’s a magical moment for the family. Drawing the example of Alia, he said that she had been a “magical child” from the beginning and that Ranbir is an “amazing kid” as well.
“This is the most challenging role, which life is asking me to play, which is the role of a grandfather…It is a magical moment for the whole family. First of all, Alia has been a magical child since the beginning. She has amazed me with her extraordinary talent, which has displayed to herself and the world, and then the marriage with Ranbir, was a great, high moment, and I love the boy. He is an amazing kid.”

He went on to express that the child will have the genes of “extraordinary” parents.
“There’s another universe which is going to descend in our backyard and in our life. It is quite astounding news. I am happy for Alia and Ranbir, and the entire clan. I am certain that the child which is going to be born will have the genetics of these two extraordinary children — Ranbir and Alia.”
When asked about what advice would he give the parents-to-be, he said that nothing can prepare them beforehand for what is to come. They must “fumble and stumble” to learn it on their own.
“They will have to grope, fumble and stumble and find their own ways to deal with the kid. Because this is far more… This is real life, not reel life. When real-life steps into your organised life, it brings it magic, wilderness and its challenges. A new story is going to emerge with the arrival of this child. I have never been a person who has given advice to any of my children. The child will bring several lessons to teach the parents. They will have to learn, like any other normal parent as they experience the new phase.”
