Maharashtra Govt Hospital Shares Dead Body With Family While Patient Is Actually Alive

Medical negligence is a dangerous phenomena that’s gripping the nation at an alarming rate. What’s worse is that this kind of behaviour comes from Government hospitals. And although several incidents of immense callousness has been displayed by them, it looks like they’ve no intention to improve their image. So, in keeping with the tradition of degrading our medical scenario, one Maharashtra hospital made the greatest gaffes of all time.

According to NDTV, a Government hospital in Maharasthra handed over the body of a Avinash Dadasaheb Bagwade. However, it was later revealed that he’s alive and well.

The incident took place at an hospital in Sangli, where Avinash Bagwade was admitted and was being treated for his liver ailment. However, nowhere out of the blue, his relatives received a call confirming that he was dead. So, they came to collect Avinash’s dead body and perform his last rites.

“one relative was not convinced that it was Bagwade’s body. He spoke to the hospital authorities who asked the family to collect the body and leave the premises.”

So, they turned back, went to the concerned authorities and found out that they had given them the wrong dead body and that Avinash was actually alive and under treatment.

So, it turns out that the Sangli civil hospital had mixed up the names of Avinash Bagwade and the person who was dead. Considering how damning all this was, Medical Superintendent Dr. Subodh Ugane said,

“We will submit a probe report in the next 48 hours and action will be taken against those involved.”

While we can’t imagine the roller-coaster ride the Bagwade family must’ve gone through, another information came to light after the unknown dead body was returned to the hospital. And that was that, after conducting a post-mortem, even they couldn’t identify whose dead body that was. Additionally, nobody has come to claim it.

As a layman, it’s very difficult to understand what’s the medical situation of a patient. But it’s an wholly different thing to misuse that lack of knowledge to whisk away someone else’s dead body. Now, it’s highly probable that the hospital will try to brush this mix up under the rug.
