This year’s monsoon has been hard pretty much all over India. Heavy rainfalls resulted in major damage to infrastructure and floods in some parts. However, the major brunt of it was felt by Kerala where the incessant rains resulted in water levels rising to dangerous levels in the state’s dams.
In fact, the past week saw a historic moment when the shutters of the Idukki Dam were opened for the first time in 26 years.
Kerala's Idukki dam was opened for the first time in 26 years after heavy rains caused the water level in the dam to reach 2399 feet. #KeralaRains

The rising levels in the water bodies running through the state have resulted in floods in most parts of Kerala.
And though some have been making the best of the situation…

Over 1 lakh citizens are left homeless following the flood and at least 37 have been reported dead.
Stepping up to the situation, celebrities, politicians, and the government have come forward to help those in need and build back the community:
Saving their lives was our priority. Now it is our duty to help them rebuild it. Contribute generously to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. #KeralaFloods #KeralaFloodRelief pic.twitter.com/eNHjyENt8d

However, one man’s contribution stands out for his big heart.
Hats off to #Vishnu from Madyapradesh. The magnanimity to donate his entire stock of blankets to the people in distress should be an eye opener. pic.twitter.com/k1kTBVXak5

This is Vishnu Kachhawa, a blanket seller from Maharashtra. He went to Kerala with an inventory of 50 blankets to sell. However, seeing the state of emergency in the state, he donated his entire stock to a flood relief camp in Kannur district.
The 28-year-old hails from Neemuch district of Ujjain division in Madhya Pradesh.
Meet #Vishnu. He is a blanket merchant from Maharashtra. He came back to Kerala with 50 blanket to sell. But once he knew about the calamities this guy didn't have to think twice he donated his entire stock of blankets to the district collector. #KeralaFloodRelief pic.twitter.com/fcz7MTE5LL

Speaking to Onmanorama, the father of two says:
“Kannur is my second home. Kerala has given me everything – a place to stay, a livelihood to support my family and raise my children… and really good climate. I am seeing Kerala in such agony for the first time. I cannot afford to watch people suffering and I gave them what i have.”
Folks of twitter are full of praise for the young man for his selfless action:
1. Truly a hero.

Thank you for restoring our faith in humanity Vishnu. You have taught us that having a big heart is the biggest wealth a person can have and that humanity trumps caste, creed, religion and every other aspect that supposedly make us different. Kudos to Vishnu!
