Lung Races From Pune To Hyderabad Within 1 Hour Via Green Corridor To Save A Life

When there is a will, there is a way. And when it comes to organ donations and transplants, heartwarming stories of people coming together to help a person in need have always amazed us. For instance, a hospital organizing a dreamy wedding for a patient awaiting a heart transplant, or a woman giving birth to Asia’s first uterus transplant baby after receiving the uterus from a mother.

As per a report in The New Indian Express, a terminal lung disease patient undergoing treatment in Hyderabad’s KIMS Heart and Lung Transplant Institute got a new lease of life after a lung was airlifted in a chartered flight from a Pune private hospital’s patient who had been declared brain dead. This amazing feat was achieved within an hour.

Times Now reports that after the young Pune patient’s family came forward to donate the organ, Arthi Gokhle who is the Central Coordinator of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Center (ZTCC) Pune wasted no time in ensuring that the lung reaches the critical Hyderabad patient on time.

The traffic police of both states along with the Airports Authority of India came together to arrange the green corridor through to transport the organ faster. Dr. Swarnalatha, who is in-charge of Jeevandan in Telangana guided and supported the noble cause simultaneously.

As per The Tribune, the lung was finally received by the Hyderabad patient in the evening without any delay after scaling the distance of 560 Km between the two states. He had been registered with Telangana’s Jeevandan program.

The report also says that all due precautions were taken in the course of the transport and transplant keeping the COVID-19 pandemic in mind. The transplant was done by the doctors at KIMS only after the Pune donor had tested negative for coronavirus.
