Remember the time when we were toddlers and could not wait to grow up? We would look at the adult life as independent, where you didn’t need permissions to do anything. We would hate it when our parents made the rules and we needed to follow them without any arguments.
But, have you thought how our mothers felt when we said that, we just wanted to grow up quickly? The love that they have for their child is inarticulate and when they see their little ones growing up at an astronomical pace they feel a little left out.
In a moving post shared by Love What Matters, this mother shares her anxiety as her 6-year-oldar old is growing up way too quickly!
“When you learn new things, you make me happy, when you use your manners without being reminded you make me proud. When you grow out of your shoes you make me tear up. Because you, my six-year-old love; you are growing up quicker than I expected.
One day you’re going to be “big” and I won’t have you brushing your teeth right in front of me, as I brush mine. I won’t have to remind you to wash your hands before dinner or to pick your clothes up off the bathroom floor. You won’t have to ask my permission to go outside. And it’s kind of scary to imagine the beautiful, happy, innocent soul inside of you, grown and in such a scary world.
You tell me you can’t wait until you can ‘be big and have a job’ so I tell you ‘you have the rest of your life to be big, you’re only little for now.‘ And I mean that.. so that’s why nights like tonight when you come to my bedside crying because you had a bad dream, I lift the covers and pull you in. I don’t mind wrapping my arms around you, and a face full of hair.. because I know I’ll never again have you as little as you are tonight.”
I am still wiping away a few tears. Those of you who are at home, hug your mom right away and those of you who stay away, make sure you call her up because they like to be included in your lives too!
