Varanasi Youth Develops ‘Lipstick Gun’ For Women That Makes Explosion-Like Sound & Sends SOS To 112

It’s 2020 and women around the globe are more independent and vocal than ever. Though police in India are taking proactive measures for women’s safety, Indian ‘naris’ can very well defend themselves these days.

However, it’s always reassuring to know that the other gender has your back. Recently, a youth from Uttar Pradesh developed a security gadget for women. Shyam Chaurasia, an aspiring scientist from Varanasi, has developed a ‘lipstick gun’ that triggers off an explosion-like sound to scare off potential attackers, reports Hindustan Times.

If a woman is in danger she can send a distress signal to the police emergency number 112 using the lipstick. Chaurasia fitted an additional socket into a regular lipstick cover to cleverly include the ‘gun’. The innovative device is chargeable and can be connected to mobile devices through bluetooth.

“If a woman is caught in an uncomfortable situation, she can simply press the button fitted in the socket. This will trigger a loud explosion-like sound and also send a message to 112. It is easy to carry and since it is fitted to the normal lipstick, it will not raise any doubts,” he was quoted saying by Business Insider.

It took Chaurasia one month to build the gadget which costs around Rs 600. He is now planning to get the patent for his device. Shefali Rai, a student of the Banaras Hindu University, who has used the ‘lipstick gun’ said, “It is convenient to carry and creates a scare with its explosion sound. When you take it out, no one will suspect because it looks like a lipstick.”

This is not the first time someone came up with an innovative solution for this dire problem. Previously, a 23-year-old from Hyderabad invented a bangle-like device to tackle increasing incidents of violence against women. We applaud the efforts of these intelligent folks who are making life easier for women.
