Let’s agree that 2020 has been a life-changing year. Who could have thought that we would spend an entire year confined at home? However, while 2020 was filled with disasters like the pandemic, floods, forest fires, locust invasion, cyclones, earthquakes, it still bestowed upon us some valuable life lessons.
Here are 20 things the coronavirus pandemic taught me in 2020!
1) To become more self-sufficient
From cleaning utensils to fixing leaking pipes, the corona-induced lockdown taught me to become more independent. And, while I missed having all the help, learning these skills has surely proved beneficial in life.
2) Rediscovering the bond with my family members
Spending quality time at home made me realize the true value of family. Not only are my parents and siblings my biggest cheerleaders, but they are also my pillar of strength and emotional support.
3) Cherish the little things in life
While my busy lifestyle didn’t give me the opportunity to appreciate nature, I woke up to the chirping of birds and noticed the mesmerizing sky during the pandemic. Oh, what a blessing!
4) Increased tolerance
Being confined at home with 6 other people, made me more sensitive towards their needs. I realized how patience is a virtue that you need to possess because everyone is different.
5) Protecting the environment is a must
It is our responsibility to protect the environment from pollution caused due to human-led activities. As industries were closed, cars were less amid the pandemic, pollution levels decreased significantly. This goes on to show, how humans need to step up in order to save the environment.
6) Nature can heal in absence of overbearing human activities
From clear skies to clean rivers, nature was thriving in the absence of human activities. This means we can save mother earth if we consciously become more eco-friendly!
7) Importance of health and hygiene
As the deadly virus took over the world, cleaning our hands and sanitizing became a crucial part of our lives. While following covid-19 guidelines, it became evident that hygiene is of the utmost importance in order to lead a healthy life.
8) Personal growth
Self-reflection has become a crucial part of my life now. It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. It’s important to realize our privileges. We just need to focus on being a better version of ourselves each day.
9) ‘ME time’ is a must
Establishing your personal space is important. Even if it means stepping away for a few minutes and relaxing.
10) Importance of friends
I am never canceling a plan with my friends ever again. Ugh, how I miss those fun outings with my BFFs. Spending quality time with friends (even if it’s a video call) is a great way to refresh your mind and soul.

13) Traveling is essential
The first thing I am going to do once things get back to normal is travel! Being at home for the past 9 months has reignited my love to explore the beauty of the world.
14) Creativity is the way to go
With limited resources available, many of us unleashed our creative sides amid the pandemic. From playing tennis on rooftops to balcony concerts, people got really innovative.
15) Technology is a boon!
Going digital has kept me sane during these testing times. From collaborating with colleagues to meeting our teachers online, from online cooking classes to virtual dance parties, we all used our time wisely to pursue new hobbies.
16) Humanity above all
The world came together to help those in need during this time of crisis. The power of social media truly proved to be a blessing for the needy.
17) To listen more, to care more!
I had enough time to have actual conversations with loved ones during the pandemic. It felt so nice to hear people out and understand their perspective towards life.

It’s never too late to follow your dreams. Many people turned their hobbies into full-fledged businesses and supported their families during these testing times.

Who could have imagined 2020 would be such a disastrous year?! Life is unpredictable and we need to live every moment to the fullest.
20) Lastly, to keep hope!
