A Stray Leopard Entered A School Compound In Bengaluru And Created A Havoc

Animals entering the buildings in urban cities is not a ‘new’ problem.

On 7 February 2016, a stray leopard entered the VIBGYOR school premises in Bengaluru, near Whitefield. Since it was a Sunday, there were no children but the incident resulted in a havoc.

Here are some details of the incident:

1. The school authorities suspected its entry around 4 AM. When they had a look into the CCTV, their fear was confirmed.

2. Forest Department Staff was called and 2 teams were formed to capture the wild cat.

3. The Forest officials shot the creature with tranquilizer darts. The tranquilizer didn’t kick in, and the confused leopard mauled around 6 people.

4. And one of them was wildlife conservationist, Sanjay Gubbi. The poor man was trying to escape the scene by scaling a wall, but the leopard dragged him down and bit his arm.

5. The drugged leopard entered the changing room and collapsed after which, the officials put a net over it and took it out of the school.

While the leopard was captured, it raises an impertinent message about the man-animal conflict, yet again.
