5 Indian Movies And Shows Which Introduced Us To The Most Legendary Detectives Of All Time!

Indian-Detectives

‘You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear,’ said one of the greatest detectives of all times, Mr. William Sherlock Scott Holmes. The power of observation is something that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but only meant for a select few.

And, there’s nothing more exhilarating than solving a mystery or seeing it being solved, right in front of your eyes. Young minds are curious and are constantly seeking answers to questions. That’s quite an apt reasoning as to why we loved those detective shows as kids.

While the West boasts of Sherlock, Rust Cohle, Luther, et al, Indians look homeward for some desi detectives and we have humble additions too. Here are the brave, Indian crime-fighting detectives of all time shown in films and on TV.

1. Byomkesh Bakshi

What can be said about our homegrown Satyanweshi (The Inquisitor) birthed by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay? There have been many attempts at recreating Byomkesh da on big and small screens. Sushant Singh Rajput was the last one to try it, but Rajit Kapur’s portrayal will always remain fresh in our minds.

2. Karamchand

Ask any 90s kid about him and they will instantly put Pankaj Kapur’s face to Karamchand. Chomping on carrots and playing chess and solving crime, Karamchand did it all and we were hooked and in his awe.

3. Tehkikaat

It was a limited series of mere 13 episodes but the duo of Sam D’Silva and Gopi redefined detective serials. During the 90s it was hailed as one of the best thriller series Indian audiences were treated to.

4. Chacha Chaudhary

The cartoon character was translated on-screen into human form by Raghubir Yadav, who played the role immaculately. More than a detective, he was a relatable superhero and that made it even more fun.

5. Bobby Jasoos

It’s been a joke amongst men since ages about how women would make excellent detectives because of their inquisitive tendencies. We, women, would like to see it as that we are blessed with sharp minds and yes, we are brilliant at a lot of things. When Vidya Balan played Bobby on the screen, it was a delightful ride and we lauded her for investigative skills.

They don’t make detectives like them anymore. Wait, scratch that out. They do and are still trying to. If you were missing a good detective show and wanted to treat your senses to a good story, then the wait is over. Zee TV is all set to bringing to its viewers an exciting new detective series- Detective Didi.
