After Ranu’s video went viral, we’ve all wanted to know how Lata Mangeshkar would react to Ranu’s rendition of her songs. And the wait is over. The singing maestro has spoken.
Lata Mangeshkar finally broke her silence on Ranu and gave her honest opinion about the internet sensation who shot to fame in the matter of a few days.
Lataji was delighted by Ranu’s success but also expressed that staying original is the key to survive in the industry.
“If anyone gets benefited from my name and work then I feel fortunate. But I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success.”
“By singing my songs or Kishoreda’s (Kumar), or (Mohd) Rafi Saab’s, or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha’s (Bhosle) numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won’t last,” Lataji said according to reports.
Mangeshkar also expressed her concerns over the increasing number of music talent shows that saturate the music industry with several spectacular singers every year, not all of whom manage to make it sustain the success. “So many children sing my songs so beautifully. But how many of them are remembered after the first flush of success? I only know of Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghosal.”
She further adds that only original singers can survive in the industry. “Be original. By all means, sing the evergreen songs by me and my colleagues. But after a point, the singer must seek and find his or her own song. If Asha (Bhosle) had not insisted on singing in her own style she would have remained in my shadow forever. She is the biggest example of how far individuality can take one’s talent to.”
Those are some words of wisdom from the expert herself. Nevertheless, Ranu Mondal’s journey is fast picking up pace. From meeting her family after a decade to getting a scintillating makeover and singing multiple original songs for Bollywood music singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya, looks like she is on the way to living her best life!
