We’re the generation that had discovered the privileges of mobile phones. Sadly enough, we’re also the generation that is cursed because of them, especially when it interferes badly with our academic interests. And this is something that students of a medical college in Lahore realised to their detriment.
A Twitter user shared a video of a rather shocking incident where a man is being seen smashing smartphones with a brick. According to his caption, the video was from a medical college in Lahore, Pakistan.
This is from a medical college in Lahore. The state of these fucking institutions. pic.twitter.com/dkTy4UVUHM

The man can be heard asserting his decision to pretty much annihilate those phones, which include several expensive ones too. The whole lot could be worth lakhs.
At one point, the other man, who seems to be collecting the destructed remains of the broken phones, requests the smasher to at least save the sim card first or even donate the phones to someone needy, but to no avail.
As expected, the horror of the tweet began spreading far and wide and people began asking the right questions in the thread. It was discovered that the incident was from Lahore’s Avicenna Medical College, where the dean was notorious for harassing students in a similar fashion.
Confiscated from students during lectures or just using it on the premises. The dean of this college is a real psychopath.

He even seemed to publicly abuse the students.
Dean is notorious for harassing students and abusing them publicly that's why nobody speaks up.

When people began wondering aloud who the students let the dean do such a thing to them, and why were parents not brought in to stop such harassment, the Twitter user had more things to report about the sorry situation.
Dean is also a harasser and really abusive. He will insult your parents and really make your life a living hell if you rub him the wrong way so people don't talk about it publicly. What I don't understand is parents sending their kids to an institute like that.

The tweet started an avalanche of similar complaints that exposed the tyrannical functioning of the college.
Another user shared a picture of a receipt for a fine of Rs. 2000 that was imposed on a student. But wait till you hear the reason! It was for standing and chit-chating with a girl outside the classroom!

One of my friend used to study here and she left in second prof. Since Dean is an idiot used to take their classes til 4.00 am even in Ramzan

One Twitter user, who claimed to be a student of the college, started a thread of his own, where he explained the reason behind their phones meeting such a terrible fate and all the other forms of harassment that their batch faced.
Apparently, there was witch hunt for cell phones amongst the new batch of students and they were promised no harm would come to their phones if they turned them in. Alas!

The user then spoke about a harsh detention rule that they had to follow if they failed an exam.

Apparently, the students are forced to attend extra classes and sick leaves are frowned upon and met with another load of hefty fines! WTF!

Even Mohabbatein’s Gurukul wasn’t this inhuman in its treatment of students. But in this college, you cannot step out even during breaks!
https://twitter.com/shazisaraptor/status/960215908101836800
According to the user, the Chairman of the college has himself declared the institution to be a prison. WHAT?
https://twitter.com/shazisaraptor/status/960218089534214144
As if the institute couldn’t stoop any lower, they even shame girls for having ‘loose morals’.

And if that wasn’t worse, the faculty resorts to violence in the face of trivial misdemeanours like laughing or falling asleep during class!

It is one thing for academic institutions to punish students for breaking discipline. However, smashing expensive phones that are the students’ private property does not seem like the right way to get them to obey the rules. Rather, it will only end up agitating them and making them even more determined to rebel. Not to mention, it will attract the ire of the parents as well.
Here’s hoping this Twitter-wide outrage smashes some sense into the faculty’s head.
