Labourer’s Daughter Inaugurates Bengaluru Railway Station Escalator In Place Of VIP

It is a common practice for inauguration ceremonies to be carried out in the presence of a celebrity. However, it seems like for the first time, this tradition has been broken by people in Bengaluru.

According to a report by TOI, a 10-year-old daughter of a labourer was asked to inaugurate a newly built escalator at KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station for which the South Western Railway authorities are receiving much praise by the people.

The escalator, along with a renovated AC waiting hall, were waiting to be inaugurated. However, due to the imposition of Sector 144 due to the Ayodhya Verdict, the formal inauguration ceremony was cancelled.

Wanting to open the site for the public, authorities asked 10-year-old Begumma, a labourers daughter who was sitting on the platform, to perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Her mother, 32-year-old Chandbi, worked on the project for a few months.

“We saw them sitting at the platform and asked them to inaugurate the facility. They were both surprised and happy,” said Ashok Kumar Verma, Bengaluru divisional railway manager.

This shows how instead of falling for the celebrity trap, people can honour the ones whose labour has gone into completing a project. While roping in a VIP guest might seem unnecessary, this act should be put to practice instead!
