Trainer Adopts Dog That Waited For Its Humans After Idukki Landslide

A few days back, a massive landslide hit Nemakkadu Estate at Pettimudi, Idukki district, Kerala. While the NDRF and fire & rescue officials searched for victims under the debris, a pet dog named Kuvi also joined them at the site waiting for its humans.

According to Mumbai Mirror, even after the dog owner, Pratheesh Kumar’s body was found, Kuvi remained there and helped in the discovery of the owner’s two-year-old daughter Dhanushka. After the toddler was found, Kuvi refused to eat anything out of grief.

Yahoo News quoted Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose saying,

“I was there at the spot while Dhanushka’s body was being retrieved. The dog seemed to be upset. There is a bridge named Cemet bridge. Her body was found near a tree under the bridge. It was lying in the river which flows through Pettimudi. The dog caught the smell and helped the rescue workers find the baby’s body.”

On August 16, Ajith Madhavan, a trainer with the District K9 Dog Squad, took Kuvi under his wing. He took the dog to the NDRF mess and fed it. Now, Kerala Police has tweeted that he has adopted Kuvi after taking requisite permissions from the Idukki Collector and Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department.

We hope Kuvi feels as loved in the new home as it did in the old one.
