There are countless incidents wherein people have mistaken laymen to be celebrities and vice versa. There are also cases where celebrities have been mistaken for other celebrities. It’s quite common for brown or coloured actors in Hollywood to be confused with some other actor/politician/artist of colour.
Although celebrities are mostly sportive about it, you can only imagine how annoying it must be to be constantly called or recognized by someone else’s name and achievements.
That’s exactly what Kumail Nanjiani, Pak-American comedian, actor and writer, meant when he took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

Funny, right? Absolutely. But that’s the thing about comedy – it is someone else’s misery. And the thing about misery? It always has company.
Kunal Nayyar, of The Big Bang Theory fame, replied to Kumail with his own bittersweet thought on being mistaken for him sometimes.

The cherry on this already amazing cake was added when Kal Penn, of Harold & Kumar fame, responded to the tweet too. And this one was the funniest, really.
I have taken credit for both of your accolades in the last 2 weeks so I guess I owe you each a photo, half a beer, and an awkward extended hug

Twitterati found this conversation really entertaining, and TBH, it is. Pretty soon, people joined in with sarcasm, relatable thoughts, suggestions and questions of their own.
1. Another one joins the ‘relatable gang’.
Which ones do you guys get most often? I get aziz the most. But I’ve gotten every Indian with some frequency . @kalpenn @kunalnayyar

2. Erm, sarcastic much?
What do you mean Aziz?
— Yi-Jau Ku (@KuMoeDee) March 8, 2018
3. Someone tag Kunal Nayyar on this one, please!
You’re so great in the Big Bang Theory! How can anyone confuse you??
— Inez Russell Gomez (@inezrussell) March 9, 2018
4. That has to be some consolation.
If it makes you feel any better, my mother once loudly exclaimed her excitement when bumping into “Mick Jagger” in public. It was Steven Tyler, who made clear it wasn’t the first time.

5. This one has too many feels.
At first I thought, “Ha! It’s funny cuz it’s true!” About half a microsecond later, I thought, “Oh, god, that’s so depressing cuz it’s true,” and had to unlike your tweet because ♥️ing it felt weird.
Your tweet is an emotional rollercoaster that flung me to the ground.

6. You mean you loved Dev Patel, yea?
Loved your work in Lion
— Fez 🥏 (@ayviemal) March 8, 2018
7. At least someone is flattered by the confusion.
I feel you on that (and am genuinely complimented when I'm mistaken for you, even though we look nothing alike):https://t.co/kQ6aFG3pRW

8. Really cannot decide if he’s being sarcastic or real…
Just ignore them, Kumail, You're such a great actor. I loved you in Parks and Recreation!
— Michael Krehan (@EboMike) March 9, 2018
It’s one thing to mistake common people for celebrity look-alikes. But it’s a completely different ball game to confuse one famous celebrity for another. I mean, they’re famous for a reason, and no, all brown actors do NOT look the same. Nonetheless, this Twitter conversation of the boys sharing relatable thoughts totally made my day.
