In A First, Police Headquarters In Kerala Get A Humanoid Robot To Perform Front Desk Duties

The whole process of filing a complaint at a Police station can be a distressing task for both the police and the complainants. While the series of confusing steps that are required to get an issue registered can turn out to be a pain for laymen, the police often fall short of the number of men required at the front desk.

However, to solve this issue, the police headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram has taken the help of technology.

In a bid to reduce the stress, a new robot named KP-BOT has been installed at the headquarters. The technically dynamic robot will take over the front desk duties and help people complete their official business without hassle.

“At present, about four persons are required to do the front office duty. Now, it would be managed by the KP-BOT.”

KP-BOT will solve a number of problems such as visitors IDs, fix appointments, collect personal information, and guide them to the appropriate sections. It also comes with the ability to recognize officers around the station with its incredible facial recognition feature.

According to News18, it will also be able to create case files and complaints and connect petitioners to their concerned officers via Skype! Apparently, it has also been armed with the skill to detect explosives.

When KP-BOT finally gets posted to the headquarters after a month’s training, the Kerala Police will be the first police department in the country’s history to use a robot for Police work.

It is to be noted that the robot is a female and if someone tries to bribe it, KP-BOT will say that it has the person’s details and can file a complaint for making the offer. Speaking about the gender of the robot, the DGP said,

“Women empowerment and gender equality were kept in mind while deciding on the gender of the first robot. Also, the fact that most front office jobs are managed by women was considered.”

Though KP-BOT has been assigned to front office duties, the Kerala Police aims at regulating traffic with the help of robots in the near future.

Woah! KP-BOT comes as a major advancement in this world driven by technology and we hope it lives up to its expectations.
