Photography, I feel, is one of the lesser appreciated arts. With the advent of decent quality mobile cameras, every other person considers themselves a photographer. But the real art is having an eye to see magic where others don’t. It is to capture the essence of a surreal, fleeting moment before it passes you by.
Jani Ylinampa is a Finnish Lapland based nature photographer. His speciality is clicking the breathtaking Northern Lights as they dance across the sky. Apart from these, he also clicks beautiful sunsets, forests, lakes and almost everything else that is nature.
A small island called Kotisaari Island in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland caught his fancy and he decided to click aerial views of it through all four seasons, i.e. summer, winter, autumn and spring.
The pictures are breathtaking, to say the least. It’s so rare to see nature’s transformation across season so beautifully.
1. The glorious summer sun.
2. Even spring has its own charm over here.
3. ‘Winter is coming’? It came and it’s lovely.
4. Autumn here would be my favourite time of the year.
The island floats in the Kemi river and Jani used a drone to capture these images.
Spell-binding isn’t it? I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights and now I have another spot to explore when I go. And these pictures kind of just makes you want to pack your bags and move to this island.
