The world we live in is a strange place. Sample this,
As you walk into a high end restaurant and ask for clarified butter on your rice with exotic vegetables, it’s supremely classy. And when you walk into same restaurant and ask for desi-ghee on your pulaw, you become and alien.
Language or dress somehow has become a barrier in our country, which is ironic, as THIS is where everything originated in the first place. Does the 21st century’s modernisation, globalisation, industrialisation tells us to be away from the values and the culture that we stand for? Because, that’s news to me!
And that’s exactly why Debleena Sen was outraged when someone she knew wearing a dhoti, was not allowed to enter Quest Mall, Kolkata. The guards stopped him, hushed in their walky-talkies and took them to their office. She writes an FB post saying –
She says that as soon as the man argued and interacted in ENGLISH, they let him enter. But eventually they left the mall as it was disrespectful to the person’s individuality, his culture and his way of life. You can watch the video of man’s interaction with the security here.
When they went to the office, Debleena also tried to capture the video of the mall authority interacting with the man, but she was asked to shut off the camera.
I fail to comprehend this. Do you too?
How did we come so far to disrespect our own culture and values. Did 2017 set things in reverse? Because, this isn’t the progressive society that we keep talking about.
