Man Offers First-Class Flight Seat To Mom & Her Sick Baby, Wins Everyone’s Heart

Traveling with a sick infant is never easy. Kelsey Zwick was one such mom en route from Orlando to Philadelphia when a complete stranger offered her his first class seat on flight 588 of the American Airlines. The unexpectedly thoughtful gesture took her completely by surprise. Intrigued?

So were we!

Mom to twins Eva and Lucy, Kelsey hasn’t had it easy. Her 11-month-old girls born premature and spent a substantial period of their early days on this earth in the NICU. While Lucy was confined to the NICU for 100 days; Eva was discharged after 86 days.

The weaker, albeit cheery twin, Lucy now has a chronic lung condition that requires Kelsey to make frequent trips to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Thursday night saw Kelsey Zwick struggling at the airport with baby Lucy, her bulky stroller and the diaper bag. What is more is that the new mom lugged along a heavy oxygen concentrator without which, Lucy can’t fly.

Just as they settled into their seat in economy, Kelsey set up the oxygen machine only to be approached by a kindly flight attendant with a remarkable offer!

She was notified that a gentleman flying first class would like to switch seats with Kelsey reports Daily Mail, UK.

The overwhelmed mom was still in shock as she was ushered to first class where she met the kind stranger. Teary-eyed, she vehemently thanked the man who quickly left with a smile. Wanting to do more, she uploaded a picture of her and Lucy in-flight and wrote of the incident in a Facebook post where Kelsey is all praise for the anonymous stranger.

She hoped her story would inspire others to do a random good turn. But, what she didn’t know was that her saga would garner over 600,000 likes worldwide.

Here’s a sneak peek at the post that has gone viral since:

To the man in 2D. Today you were traveling from Orlando to Philly. I don’t know you, but I imagine you saw us somewhere. I was pushing a stroller, had a diaper bag on my arm and also lugging an oxygen machine for my daughter. We had smiles on our faces as we were headed to see her “friends” at CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia). We pre- boarded the plane, got cozy in our window seat and made jokes to those around us about having to sit by my yelling-but-happy baby. The flight attendant came over and told me you were waiting to switch seats. You were giving up your comfortable, first class seat to us.Not able to hold back tears, I cried my way up the aisle while my daughter Lucy laughed! She felt it in her bones too… real, pure, goodness. I smiled and thanked you as we switched but didn’t get to thank you properly.

****************************

Sooo… thank you. Not just for the seat itself but for noticing. For seeing us and realizing that maybe things are not always easy. For deciding you wanted to show a random act of kindness to US. It reminded me how much good there is in this world. I can’t wait to tell Lucy someday. In the meantime… we will pay it forward. AA 588 passenger in seat 2D, we truly feel inspired by your generosity.

Please share so we can say thanks!

After a tough pregnancy and rough year, Kelsey and her husband Yuri certainly deserve some serendipity. The stranger who she calls her guardian angel came as a Godsend. Indeed, a random act of kindness can go a long way to brighten up someone’s day. Many thanks to you Seat 2D, wherever you are! Such chivalry does not go unnoticed.

In fact, touched by the gesture, the young mother hopes to narrate the tale to her little one someday!
