Racked With Guilt & Bad Luck, Ketchup Thief Returns Bottles Along With An Apology Note!

Almost all of us have swiped shampoo bottles from hotel rooms. Don’t even bother denying it. But have you ever shop-lifted candy from a supermarket? Or lipstick from a beauty store? The thought does seem filled with thrills but most of us resist the urge. Fox 13 News reports that a New Jersey resident did not. The unidentified person stole a bottle of Heinz ketchup from Perkins Restaurant and Bakery in Lacey Township.

The eatery did not notice the ketchup’s absence until restaurant manager Charlene Reebe found an apology note from the thief and two brand new bottles of sauce!

To the person that returned this. You are forgiven. Hope all goes better for you lesson learned.

The note began with an explanation,

“A few weeks ago, I had taken one of your ketchup bottles off the table because for some odd reason I thought it’d be ‘risky’. I am as square as they come and this is the worst thing I’ve done.”

But then came a twist, the thief had suffered misfortunes thereafter and wanted to clear their conscience.

“Well, a few hours I did it, someone crashed into my car, and since then my karma, luck and life have been shit. I hope returning two new bottles will restore some [luck] for me, and I can stop carrying around this guilt.”

The note is signed “From, an awful person.” but the restaurant management believes it is a young woman based on the handwriting. They have displayed it in the eatery and also forgiven the culprit.

New York Post quotes the owner Maria DiLeo saying.

“I was like, this poor kid, she must feel terrible. I would hire her in a second. Because if you do something like that, you’re not an awful person. You’re an honest person.’’

We’ve always heard the saying that Karma is a b*tch but now, we’ve seen it in action too. We’ll remember this incident the next time we feel the urge to steal.
