Elderly Couple Who Fell In Love At Kerala Old Age Home Marry In Beautiful Ceremony

They say that love turns up in the most unexpected (sometimes unlikely) places. It can catch us unaware while we’re volunteering at an NGO, at a solo vacation, at a party we had no intention of attending but got dragged to anyway or even a dating app (yes, it’s possible).

But 65-year-old Lakshmi Ammal probably never thought she’d find it after her husband passed away, that too in a government-run old age home in Thrissur’s Ramavarmapuram. Before his death, her husband asked his 66-year-old assistant caterer, Kochaniyan Menon, to take care of his wife after he was gone and Mr. Menon has abided by it ever since.

According to NDTV, their friendship evolved into love and after 20 years, they finally tied the knot on December 28 and the pictures are heartwarming.

According to India today, everyone at the old age home pitched in to organize the ceremony which included mehendi, dance, music and traditional rituals under the leadership of John Daniel, standing committee member of Thrissur Corporation Welfare. The bride wore a red silk saree and the groom looked dashing in a shirt and mundu.

The Indian Express reports that Kerala Agriculture Minister VS Sunil Kumar and District Collector S. Shanavas also joined in the celebrations. The former also shared pictures of the wedding on Facebook.

Thank you, Ms. Ammal and Mr. Menon for showing us that love can find us even when we’re not looking for it and fill our world with unadulterated happiness. We wish you a joyous married life ahead!
