They say that hope thrives when times are dark and grim but how is one supposed to stay positive with the kind of tales that the newspapers are telling us? How is one not supposed to lose faith when people are hell-bent on wiping the existence of humanity from amidst us?

I sincerely wish I had something else to add, but another shocking incident has come to the fore and it’ll make you worry about the increasing public apathy.

According to Hindustan Times, a man fell from a building at Kochi in Kerala and lied in a pool of blood as the passers-by stood and watched him suffer for about 20 minutes.

The man has been identified as Palakkad-native Saji Anto who fell from the 3rd floor of a lodge on near Padma Junction two days ago. The CCTV footage of the incident has now surfaced.

Wait it gets worse.

The CCTV footage which is now going viral shows that an auto-rickshaw was parked near the spot where Anto fell, but the driver reversed his vehicle to ensure that it didn’t touch the bleeding victim and left.

Reportedly, the 46-year-old man, who was injured seriously in the fall, was taken to the nearby general hospital only after a woman advocate persuaded some people to rush him to hospital.

“He was unconscious and bleeding profusely. Since I couldn’t lift him myself I had to appeal to the people who had gathered around to help me. We have to change this attitude. It seems people are afraid of helping accident victims as they are wary of a police case.”

Anto was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital and is currently in a critical condition.

This is not the first time that such brow-raising case of apathy has left us bewildered. Earlier, 2 boys in UP bled to death because the cops who had reached the spot didn’t want to ‘soil the car seat with blood.’

Are we turning into an apathetic nation of people who just chant ‘who-cares-let-me-stay-out-of-trouble’ in their minds and simply exist? Is this the India of our dreams, the superpower we keep talking about? Shame.
