God’s Own Country, Kerala Makes It To CNN Travel’s 19 Places To Visit In 2019

India is dotted with places that can satiate anyone’s wanderlust. Snowy Manali, sandy Gokarna, picturesque Leh and many more locations are just waiting to be explored. All without leaving the country. And it’s not just me saying this, the outside world is too. The New York Times ranked Hampi second in its list of ’52 must-see destinations of 2019′. Now, Kerala has been featured in CNN Travel’s 19 places to visit in 2019.

While it’s difficult to capture the idyllic beauty of Kerala and everything else it offers in one single sentence, CNN Travel came pretty close.

“This area of India has it all: sun, sea, sand, good food, houseboats, culture and wildlife. Its spectacular natural landscapes — think palm trees and sprawling backwaters — lend the region the nickname ‘God’s Own Country’.”

I believe Kerala is a treat to all 5 senses – touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. For those who haven’t had the pleasure to take in all in, here’s a snippet of what awaits you there.

Sandy toes, salty hair and the stunning sea

Tranquil houseboat rides in the backwaters

Adrenaline-seekers, on the other hand, can try kayaking or paragliding. Wildlife photographers are covered too with numerous bird sanctuaries and elephant camps.

Tea gardens, cocoa plantations and spice markets galore

Did you know that a Kathakali dancer uses 9 facial expressions (Navarasas) to express different emotions during a performance?

The flavours of Kerala are varied and delectable

Coconuts are used extensively in cooking and food is served on plantain leaves. Seafood enthusiasts can savour lip-smacking dishes like Kuttanad duck curry, prawn curry or spicy lobster. Vegetarians also have a lot of options like Kozhukkatta (sweet rice dumpling) and Aviyal (vegetables in coconut paste).

My 2019 #Travelgram is sorted, how about yours?
