A while back, heartwarming stories of Mumbaikars rising up to the occasion and helping those in need came forward. Like a businessman who provided the use of his vanity vans to cops on lockdown duty as well as another good samaritan who sold his SUV so that he could buy and give away oxygen cylinders for free to patients in the city.
According to India Today, an elderly man based out of Kannur, Kerala, has now donated Rs. 2 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) leaving only Rs.850 in his bank account for his personal expenses.
TOI reports that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Finance Minister Thomas Isaac shared the anonymous donor’s contribution on Twitter. The man is said to have assured hesitant bank employees while making the donation that he is entitled to a disability pension that would help tide over his own needs.
Many heart warming stories are coming up about donations to the CMDRF, including that of an elderly man who donated 2L from his savings bank account which had Rs. 200,850 in it. It is this love for one another that sets us apart. Once again, thank each and every one of you!

Keral rallies to #vaccinechallenge . A beedi worker from Kannur donates ₹2lakhs to CMDRF leaving just ₹850 in his account. Bank staff hesitated but his answer was that he could still roll beedies and also was entitled to disability pension. We are humbled by response of people.

Many people lauded the man’s compassionate gesture but a few also wondered if it was the right thing to do considering he had donated the entirety of his savings to the fund.
Simply Great Sir.

The man is a saint. But it’s also sad, kind of heartbreaking that a common man had to give up his hard earned money.
