Influencer With 1.6 Million Followers Rejected ₹3.6 Lakh Offer To Cover The Ambani Wedding

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding has made a huge impact globally. People are still talking about the weeks-long festivities and visuals are still dominating everyone’s social media. From top celebrities to politicians to international pop artists to the richest people in the world, it can be said that the Ambani wedding was graced by a large group of some of the most influential individuals we have seen. However, there was one group of people who were invited whom we didn’t see coming – Instagram influencers.

Influencers like Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Komal Pandey, Ranveer Alhabadia, Ankush Bahuguna, and many others were seen at the Ambani wedding. If rumours that are floating around social media are to be believed, then these influencers were invited by the Ambanis’ PR agency. The intention behind calling influencers was that they were expected to shoot content from the wedding and post it on social media. These influencers were even paid to promote the wedding online.

While a lot of these content creators caved, there is one content creator named Kavya Karnatac who decided not to attend the Ambani wedding, despite being offered Rs 3.6 lakh. She currently has 1.6 million followers on Instagram and she creates geographical content.

Kavya Karnatac took to LinkedIn to share the reasons why she didn’t go to Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding.

“Recently, I was offered 3.6 lakhs for Ambani’s PR activation. My task? To discuss how Ambani’s wedding would boost the Indian economy. The offer far exceeded my usual rate of around 3 lakhs, and my parents even urged me to accept it. However, I decided to decline,” she wrote.

She went on to explain four reasons why she rejected the invitation – she didn’t want to be part of an overwhelming crowd promoting the same occasion, she didn’t want to lose her audience’s trust, especially at a time when Jio increased its prices, she didn’t want to promote a high-profile wedding that abides by our society’s various kinds of segregations, and because she has a strong sense of integrity.

1. Oversaturation and Personal Brand: I didn’t want to be part of an overwhelming crowd promoting the same narrative. It’s easy to get lost in the noise. I believe in maintaining the distinctiveness and value of my content, which thrives on diversity and originality. Aligning with an overly promoted narrative like Ambani’s wedding would dilute my brand’s uniqueness.2. Audience Trust: At a time when Jio has increased internet charges, promoting a corporate giant like Ambani felt insincere. Trust is fragile and built over time through consistent honesty. My audience is discerning; they can differentiate between paid promotions and genuine content. Thus, preserving their trust is crucial.

3. Ethical Concerns: In a country where marriages are often cancelled due to caste, class, gender, and religion, promoting a high-profile wedding that conforms to these norms didn’t align with my values. As an educator and creator, promoting such an event could be misleading. It’s more suited for fashion or lifestyle influencers. While I’ve previously worked with Ambani, promoting Vantara, claiming that a wedding could positively impact the Indian economy might not be factually accurate.

4. Personal Integrity: A 3.6 lakh deal is tempting. However, the long-term benefits of maintaining my integrity far outweigh the short-term financial gain. Integrity builds a loyal following, which is invaluable.
