A Kathak Dancer From Lucknow Underwent A Sex Change Operation For Lover In Pakistan

Love has no boundaries. Quite literally. And a Kathak dancer from Lucknow has just proved that.

Kathak dancer Meera, who was known as Gaurav prior to her sex change operation met Rizwan, her lover from Pakistan 5 years ago.

And all because she wants to have a ‘normal life’ with him.

 

Meera and Rizwan met each other over a social networking site in connection with he Ph.D

Meera/Gaurav who was about to get married said, “It began on a very usual note about five years ago. The topic was related to Sufism which has always reasoned everything around me. He represents a Sufi school of thought too and was helping me understand the nuances for my work.”

 

As the couple interacted and chatted over the site, they realized they had grown quite fond of each other.

“A time came when we started feeling that we are an extension of each other’s soul. The companionship grew stronger and a time came when he became my mehboob (beloved). In Sufism, that is the pinnacle of love and devotion that crosses boundaries of caste, creed, and even gender. I did not realize when he accepted my feelings for him and our bond developed so deep”, she said.

 

Meera adds that they both thought that their end was near when they realized that Rizwan’s mother was looking for matches for him and decided that they needed to do something about it quickly.

“Internet surfing gave the solution in the form of sex conversion surgery for which both of us volunteered”, she says. Her family, except her sister, were all against the surgery but she still went ahead with it and approached Dr. Mithlesh Mitra who not just operated on her, but also helped her with the counseling and hormone therapy prior to the 3 surgeries in August, September, and October.

 

Meera’s friends in Lucknow are worried about the possibility of Rizwan betraying her.

But she says, “I have immense faith in the Almighty. And I know that even if he does something which I do not want… it will be for my good.”
