Karni Sena Shout ‘Jhuka Bhansali Jeeta Rajput’ After Watching Padmaavat, Give ‘Review’

Padmavat was an epic poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi. Padmaavat, on the other hand, is a modern epic based on a dystopian society where baseless outrage spins so out of control that a major WTF situation ensues. Oh, and it is written by the Karni Sena.

From a piece of literature to Padmavati—the movie, to finally being a Karni Sena approved Padmaavati, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus has had a tumultuous journey to cinema screens.

What hasn’t transpired with this film? From its director being assaulted to death threats for its cast. The violence and uproar that the movie has resulted in has been unbelievable. What was even more unbelievable and amusing though was the demand to change a single letter of the title to diffuse an inflated situation and even more inflated sentiments.

You know shit has really hit the fan when a director has to print a full page newspaper ad to seek validation from a section of the society that is hell bent on ruining his life’s work. Yet, SLB, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, and countless supporters of the movie have persisted through it all.

And now, let me show you what they’ve received as a reward.

Yesterday, a team of 40 representative of the Rajput Karni Sena were invited to a special screening of Padmaavat, hosted by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Amongst them was Suresh Chavhanke, acting mediator/spokesperson for the Karni Sena. He tweeted the following video, taken after the movie, of them shouting slogans to celebrate their victory over Bhansali.

ICYMI, this celebration comes with its own hashtag, #JhukaBhanshaliJeetaRajput, which quite blatantly proclaims their pride at getting Bhansali to bow down to their demands. But hey, that’s not all!

Post watching the movie, two representatives, Chavhanke included, gave their own ‘review’ of the movie. According to them, the movie now adheres to their expectations and does not seem to give any cause for protests. However, conditions apply!

They’ve proclaimed that the movie takes creative liberties with certain aspects of the original story. However, they’ve now urged the protesters to not indulge in ‘blind’ protest, but rather watch the movie and decide for themselves. If, of course, they want to protest, they should do so peacefully and without causing harm to people or property.

You can watch the entire interview here.

So wait, wasn’t that the solution being proposed all along? Come, watch the movie and then if you have problems, they shall be addressed? Was this all much ado about nothing, then?

Well, Chavhanke says he is yet to consult with the Karni Sena before he can make any further comments.

Twitter has been voicing its displeasure at the way things have been panning out with the movie for a while now. And clearly, they were not happy with this.

1. Varun Grover’s parrot theory about Padmaavat has found its match!

2. Demo-crazy!

3. Ah well!

4. I know right! Diminishing an acclaimed director in such a crude manner is no show of valour.

5. LOL!

6. Now guess who’s Aaron Sorkin?

7. 50-50?

8. Sanity is a rarity.

9. You know it’s serious when even Poonam Pandey makes sense!

10. OMG, like, you can do that? Express your frustration AFTER watching the movie?

What has happened here, the logical reasoning that has finally been used, could have been employed a little early on and both warring parties could’ve avoided the fiasco! Instead, despite the Supreme Court’s (kickass) order permitting the release of the movie, the protester still blindly continue to vandalise public property and wreck unnecessary havoc. So then, honestly, who has won?

I think the below tweet just sums it up perfectly.
