Karnataka Man Builds A Temple For His Deceased Wife, Worships Her To Fulfill Her Last Wish

We are all familiar with the story of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan building the iconic Taj Mahal for his wife Mumtaz. The historic structure is nothing but a concrete proof that love lives on forever. While the Shah Jahan episode took place long before our births, we have a similar example for us to experience now!

Raju alias Rajuswamy is one such extraordinary lover who went on to build a temple for his wife to keep her last and ardent wish. Not only that, but he installed an idol of her wife in the temple and worships it alongside the other deities.

The temple which is named after his wife Rajamma is located at the Krishnapura village of Yellandur and has a plethora of visitors. Rajamma’s idol has been sculpted by Raju himself and shares the temple with four other deities – Shanishwara, Siddappaji, Navagraha and Lord Shiva.

However, *However, it wasn’t your ideal love saga. Raju’s parents were strictly against their marriage but the farmer by profession battled all odds to marry his love. Speaking about the same to TOI, he says,

“My parents were against our marriage. Somehow, we got married as my sister and brother in law didn’t oppose us. A few days after the marriage, my wife said she wanted me to construct a temple in the village. But before the completion of the temple, she passed away. So, I decided to install her idol in the sanctum sanctorum.”

According to Raju, his wife was a highly spiritual person who had special powers. She predicted her death in advance and had always wanted a temple to be built after her death.

“She predicted her death well in advance. She had a special power. She was always dreaming about a temple. She was a spiritual kind of person. These things convinced me that I should build a temple and worship her as a deity.”
Now, my dear friend, that is what love is all about.
