“Karan Johar Is Being Bullied,” Says Zoya Akhtar When Asked About The ADHM Controversy

Zoya Akhtar is known to be a woman who speaks her mind. She’s the proud creator of films like Talaash, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do etc. She comes across as one of the most intelligent directors in the film industry we have today, challenging the norms of filmmaking. Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar have been friends for a long time and she thinks something is wrong with whole ADHM controversy.

Zoya Akhtar feels that Karan Johar’s movie, slated for a 28th October release, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is dragged in for no reason.

“You (referring to Karan) are in a situation where you are being bullied and nobody is helping you…You are not being protected.”

She is shocked at the utter chaos created around this controversy, one statement conflicting with the other, politically.

“This is chaotic. The Government is saying one thing, people (referring to MNS) are saying something else.In all this what a lone person is supposed to do?”

She points out what it really means to Karan Johar and the hundreds of people who’ve worked on this film.

“It’s not about encouraging talent (from Pakistan). It’s about following the law. They (Government) are giving visas to Pakistani actors. I am following the law. And any political party has to follow the law…”

She says, what matters is the law. If the government is not decreeing a ban on Pakistani artists and allowing them work visas, the film directors hiring them are not breaking a law either.

“If they are not doing so, those elected to power (the Government) should make sure they don’t break the law. Filmmakers are not breaking the law (by giving work to Pakistani artists).”

This mess is indeed intensely chaotic, isn’t it?
