Karan Johar knows how to stay in the trending section of social media. The flamboyant Bollywood filmmaker has often made remarks that have sparked controversies. It hasn’t been much time since the ‘ADHM’ episode and Karan has sparked yet another fire.
In a recent interview, Karan opened up on how he doesn’t like people calling him Uncle or by using nicknames and he did not mince his words at all.
“My mother calls me Karan. My college friends call me Karu, which is the worst. Only in our country can we make a short form for a short name.”
He added that he has not had any pet name in his whole life and he is not comfortable with having one too.
“In official meetings, someone will call me KJo. And I’ll judge that person in my head. Just call me Karan.”
And he made his point rather strongly about being called ‘Uncle’.
“You have some kids who will come through family friends and work in the company. You cross a certain age and you are Uncle. And — pardon my French — but I’ll f*** you if you’re going to call me Uncle.”
Karan made sure to clarify that is not the age, but the formalities that bother him.
“I think so. It’s not like I think I’m a beauty queen. But I feel that if I am called Uncle, my thoughts have to constantly be relevant. It’s not the reminder about my age. It’s the formality. I can’t function with it.”
No matter what the issue is, Karan Johar always speaks his heart out and says it as it is.
