Karan Johar Called Out For ‘Elitism’ As He Promotes Matrimonial Site For IIT IIM Graduates

Just a few days ago, people online were talking at length about a matrimony app made specifically for IIT, IIM and other ‘premier institutes’ graduates. It highlighted our society’s obsession with prospective brides and grooms from such institutes and reeked of elitist culture.

However, now filmmaker Karan Johar is promoting one such website – IITIIMShaadi.com and is being ridiculed for it. He took to Instagram to post a promotional video for the website and called it a “matrimonial platform like no other”.

“Hum ek baar jeete hai, ek baar marte hai. Aur shaadi bhi ek hi baar karte hai. Isiliye, bahot zaruri hai ki life partner ka decision humara correct ho. Aur yeh aasan nahi hai, especially for highly-educated people. Kyuki agar aap highly educated ho toh aap age, caste, height, vagera dekhne se pehle, ek partner me mental compatibility dhundte ho,” he says.

This roughly translates to, “We live once, we die once, and we marry only once. Which is why it is important to make the correct decision when choosing a life partner. And this is not easy when it comes to highly-educated people, because before looking at caste, height, etc. they look for mental compatibility in a partner.”

When you visit the website, you see written in huge letters, “Alma Mater Matters” with Karan Johar beside it.
