Karan Johar Opens Up About His Sexuality, Losing His Virginity And Relationship With SRK

Karan Johar is one of the most remarkable filmmakers in the Indian film industry. The director/producer has delivered some of the most iconic films such as ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham…’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’. His films have successfully explored several relatable problems among a variety of relationships, be it between parents and their children, a husband and wife or between two best friends.

Karan Johar recently released his biography titled ‘An Unsuitable Boy’, co-authored by Poonam Saxena, which answers several doubts regarding his sexuality, losing his virginity, his relationship with Shah Rukh Khan, and much more.

“Which is why I, Karan Johar will not say the three words that possibly everybody knows about me.”

He refuses to discuss his sexuality publicly because it’s simply not a public concern. Which is fair enough. A person’s sexuality is a very personal thing. It should not be a topic of discussion at a public forum.

Several times, Karan has been asked about his relationship with SRK. He felt traumatised by the rumours of an affair between the two.

Karan always treats SRK as a father figure or an older brother. The thought of an ‘affair’ with him seems preposterous.

The director also mentions in the biography about losing his virginity at the age of 26 in New York. He elaborates on the fact that he was sexually completely inexperienced up until that point.

At the tender age of 12, Karan got home, took off his clothes and put his fan on full speed. After that, he proudly bragged about getting 3 blowjobs.

Growing up, Karan Johar felt awkward about sex. He did not feel confident about his physical appearance.

“To me, sex is a very, very personal and a very intimate feeling. It’s not something that I can do casually, with just about anyone. I have to invest in it.”

Karan also talks about the flak that he faces on social media for being the ‘poster boy of homosexuality’ in the country.

He even talks about a particularly disturbing encounter at Heathrow airport where a guy approached him with his wife and kids and shamelessly asked, ‘Is it true you are a homo?’.

Karan Johar is quite close to his mother, Hiroo Johar. She is entirely comfortable about her son’s sexuality and insisted on attending his launch sitting in the front row.

While we’ve seen a lot more of his glamorous persona onscreen like on his talk show, ‘Koffee With Karan’, the director bares the rarely seen emotional side of himself. He talks about topics which are quite personal to him and is bravely unapologetic about it all. The struggles that he has inscribed into the pages of his biography shall serve as a brilliant inspiration to us all.

Karan Johar, you have my utmost respect.
