A simple Google query with the keywords “ugliest language in India” showed a surprising search result as the Kannada language popped up on the top. The Google answer was sourced from a website called debtconsolidationsquad.com which was then mass reported by many users in India, as they shared the screenshot of the questionable search result. Check it out:

It isn’t the ugliest language.
It’s the most beautiful language

Home to the great Vijayanagara Empire, #Kannada language has a rich heritage, a glorious legacy and a unique culture. One of the world’s oldest languages Kannada had great scholars who wrote epics much before Geoffrey Chaucer was born in the 14th century. Apologise @GoogleIndia. pic.twitter.com/Xie927D0mf

As per a report in Deccan Herald, Kannada & Culture Minister Aravind Limbavali stated that he had directed the Kannada & Culture secretary to consult the law department and issue a notice to Google.
If Kannada is now called ugliest language in India, it is merely an attempt by @Google to insult this pride of Kannadigas. Demand apology from @Google ASAP to Kannada, Kannadigas. Legal action will be taken against @Google for maligning the image of our beautiful language! 2/2

Amid widespread criticism, Google soon apologized and altered the search results by excluding the webpage from where the text result was sourced from, TOI reports. A Google spokesperson stated, “Search isn’t always perfect. Sometimes, the way content is described on the internet can yield surprising results to specific queries. We know this is not ideal, but we take swift corrective action when we are made aware of an issue and are continually working to improve our algorithms. Naturally, these are not reflective of the opinions of Google, and we apologize for the misunderstanding and hurting any sentiments.”
On the contrary, Kannada currently also shows up as a top result when one searches for ‘Queen of languages in the world’ on Google. Check it out:

Been seeing many posts regarding google showing ugliest language is kannada. We respect our language and our language is the oldest language which is 2500 years (aprox) old. So requesting my dear #kannadaigas to type out Queen of languages in the world. It shows #Kannada pic.twitter.com/Lw6oGocjxO
