Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, ‘Padmaavat(i)’ might have chimed in big box office collections but nothing takes away from the fact that the period saga was sceptical of a release even. Not to mention the death threats to the cast and crew. Courtesy: Karni Sena (who BTW have now withdrawn their protest after watching the movie and realising that it glorifies Rajput pride and not tarnish).
Well, there were other debates of ‘glorification’ (read the act of Jauhar) but that is for another argument (article) for posterity. But hey, if you’re grateful that it’s over, you might wanna mute your notifications.
Why? Well because reportedly Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Manikarnika’ has now managed to draw ire from the Brahman group in Rajasthan who are now threatening to…well, you know!
Brahmins in Rajasthan are now up in arms against Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika and are threatening to disturb its shooting in Bikaner pic.twitter.com/B9vmmBisRZ

Now the reason behind wrath is that the film apparently showcases Rani Laxmibai’s love affair with a British Soldier and negates her character as a freedom Fighter in 1857.
*shrugs shoulder*
And, unsurprisingly, Twitter had a lot to say. Actually, it all boiled down to basically the same reaction…
1. Tell me about it.
After Padmavat now some folks are opposing Kangana Ranaut's film Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi!! People really need to find something better to do than oppose fictional movies made for entertainment! Protest against rapes & sexual abuse!!

2. Can you argue that?
Yesss!! Whooppiiee..that's just what we needed..one fire snuffed out and another ignited..🙌
Time for some more baseless beheading, burning, nose-cutting threats to emerge out..and many more cars/buses/effigies to burn..#Manikarnika pic.twitter.com/BFfEhzt9EE— Sobhin Javalkar 🇮🇳 (@ImSobhin) February 6, 2018
3. Prediction 100/100
1. 100 crores guaranteed.
2. Keep the kids/school buses away and safe.
3. Check the vote bank to 'control' state Government intervention.
4. Keep op-ed pieces ready for print publications.
5. Inform TV news 'panelists' to be ready. pic.twitter.com/M1zrI7RCak— Karthik (@beastoftraal) February 6, 2018
4.
Perfect ! Want to be in news protest against a movie ,Bollywood is becoming launchpad for such unknown organisations . https://t.co/srbOy2bsd2

5. The nation wants to know!
Protests against Padmavat wasn’t the first and won’t be the last. Now another fringe group Brahman maha sabha protesting against Kangana Rannaut starrer Manikarnika. My only question is who is legitimising the fringe? Are Brahmin, Rajput pride so fragile?
— Marya Shakil (@maryashakil) February 6, 2018
6. Only if…
After #Padmaavat it's now the turn of #Manikarnika.. People please grow up!! Let movies be!

7. Anyone else likes the sound of it? Or just me?

8. Bwahhahahaha ‘Ninda Aayojan Samiti’ awahahahahha.

Ninda aayojan samiti is lit these days.. https://t.co/BH7qmWZZh9— Kru 🌟 (@Achari_Nimboo) February 6, 2018
9. Oh, the irony of it all!
Bye, Padmaavat. Hi, Manikarnika. Thank you for supplying constant day jobs to the jobless! pic.twitter.com/1rmlRlyUvA

10. GOLD!

11. This is the stark reality.
These fringe groups don't even know the 'F' of filmmaking. All the know is to spread communalism and hatred and politicians will allow them to do so coz of their religious vote bank.https://t.co/XC3cv2X2RV
— Rajat Sharma (@rajat_sharma4) February 6, 2018
12. SIGH.
So people are already demanding a ban on Manikarnika?
Lmao nothing can save this country now. We're living in a hole 🤦— pri (@filmesthete) February 5, 2018
13. I second this.
I'd say there is an unexplored career in opposing films 🤔🤔🤔#padmaavat #Manikarnika #Bollywood #thinkingoutloud pic.twitter.com/mG57wbQlLC

14. I say super hit!
After #Padmaavat , we have another sure shot hit film. #Manikarnika : The Queen of Jhansi now opposed by the Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha!
— Bhaswar Mukherjee (@bhaswarview) February 6, 2018
15. Ah, never thought it that way.
Finally an issue for Brahmins to outrage about. Why should others have all the fun?https://t.co/VyF2eTR8Ku

No, seriously? Is there a pattern we are missing or this just another ploy to stay in headlines? Either way, there are dark times ahead and we better be prepared when it strikes.
