“Kala Chashma” Was Originally Written By A Head Constable From Punjab 26 Years Ago!

Kala Chashma has been the groove song of the season for as long as two months, and it happens to be the ultimate Indian wedding anthem these days.

It is a very well established fact that the song is a rendition of a Punjabi track from the 90’s, but do you have any idea who is the real writer of the song?

Meet Amrik Singh Shera,  the head constable of Punjab police in Kapurthala. He wrote the song when he was in class 9 in the year 1990.

As Shera spoke to Hindustan Times he said that he got a call from a friend around 2 months back saying that Kala Chashma is playing on TV. He was surprised to see that a song he wrote 26 years ago was featured in a movie.

He was paid Rs. 11,000 for all his songs by Jalandhar-based Angel Record Company.

He was approached by the record company requesting his permission to use the song in an inauguration of a cement firm in Mumbai.

Shera says that he has no ill-feelings. He is indeed very happy that people love his song. Although he just feels that he should have been called to the screening or the music launch for the world to know that a village man is no less.

“No one from the film industry called me to Mumbai during the music launch or screening of the film. I just wanted to go there and let everyone know that a person from a small village in Punjab has written the song”

He is not wrong. Shera took everything in such a good spirit. It’s incredible how a song written 26 years back is relevant today. Way to go Shera!
