You know Diwali is just a few days away when Twitter is abuzz with Soan Papdi memes. The ‘gift’ that gets forwarded left, right and center. It is one tradition we’d be happy breaking because eventually, the same Soan Papdi often lands up at our own doorsteps!
We’re also stoked that this year, people are making other changes such as buying only earthen lamps for #PottersKiDiwali and burning only green firecrackers to reduce air pollution.
Recently, actress Juhi Chawla pledged to celebrate a cracker-free Diwali and light diyas around the house. Though her tweet was well-intentioned, it received an icy response from desi Twitter.

Some people pointed out the huge amount of fireworks that are burned during the IPL season (opening ceremony as well as matches) which her team Kolkata Knight Riders is a part of. Others asked her to give up traveling in fancy cars and embrace public transport instead.
People called out the hypocrisy of her pledge as being selective and not a conscious lifestyle change to protect the environment.
By not watching any movie as they use lot of electricity to run their movies and A/Cs in movie halls. And electricity comes from coal plants which pollute environment. How about not using ur car and AC on Diwali ?
