Juhi Chawla Fined ₹20 Lakh For 5G Suit, HC Ruling Sparks Meme Fest Online

A while back actress Juhi Chawla along with Veeresh Malik and Teena Vachani filed a petition in Delhi High Court against the rollout of 5G in the country citing environmental hazards. NDTV quoted them saying, “no person, animal, bird, insect, and plant on earth will be able to avoid exposure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to radiation 10x to 100x times greater than what exists today.”

The Indian Express reports that the suit has now been dismissed and a fine of Rs. 20 lakh has been imposed on the plaintiffs.

Justice Jag Jivan Ram Midha observed that,

“The plaintiffs have abused and misused the process of law which has resulted in waste of judicial time. The cost of Rs 20 lakh is imposed on the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs are directed to deposit the cost of Rs 20 lakh with Delhi State Legal Services Authority within one week.”

He added, “It appears the suit was for publicity,” and also addressed the previous interruption saying, “which is clear from the fact that plaintiff no 1 (Chawla) circulated the videoconferencing link of this court on her social media accounts which resulted in repeated disruptions of court proceedings”.
