Parents Sue 30 YO Son For Not Paying Rent Or Doing Chores, Court Asks Him To Vacate House

Even with countries adopting bits and parts of each other’s cultures, there is still a vast difference between various societies. For example, in the USA, children must move out of their parents’ house and fend for themselves. On the other hand, in our country India, children wanting to live alone and away from parents is looked upon as rebellious.

But not in the States. Ironically, the parents of 30-year-oldĀ Michael Rotondo sued him for not paying rent or helping with household chores while living with them. They even gave him an eviction notice.

According to a report in BBC, Michael does not pay rent, help with the chores and has even refused to take financial help from his parents to settle elsewhere.

After being handed 5 eviction notices, Christina and Mark Rotondo sais their son refuses to move out.

On 2 February 2, they wrote him a letter that said,

“We have decided that you must leave this house immediately.”

When Michael ignored it, they drafted a proper eviction notice with a lawyer’s help on February 13.

“You are hereby evicted. A legal enforcement procedure will be instituted immediately if you do not leave by 15 March 2018.”

His parents also $1,100 (Ā£819) to move out – along with some sharp commentary about his behaviour. They said,

“There are jobs available even for those with a poor work history like you. Get one – you have to work!”

However, even by March 30, Michael showed no signs of moving out. His parents finally approached the town court to see if they can do anything to get him to leave.

Since Michael was family, the parents were told they would need a Supreme Court Justice to get him evicted.

Christina and Mark Rotondo filed a case with Onondaga County Supreme Court, near Syracuse, New York, on 7 May, after months of unsuccessfully urging him to leave.

It is going to be Michael’s 31st birthday later this month, which is when the couple will take their case to court.

While we may take some time to digest this story, you can’t really blame Michael’s parents for serving him an eviction notice. If my son lives with me while being jobless and useless around the house, I’d kick him out too.
