Journalist Groped At A Youth Rally At Jantar Mantar, Gets Blamed For Entering The Crowd

Journalist-Groped

Are we safe anywhere? This is a burning question everyone seeks an answer to. But do we have it? Sadly, no. Crimes against women are on the rise, constantly, and numerous cases are reported each day. Plus, social media and yellow journalism help in reporting an incident too.

Taking to social media, a 29-year-old TV journalist, Aneesha Mathur, shared that she was groped and assaulted by a man at the Youth Congress rally on Thursday at Jantar Mantar, while she was covering it.

She also added two major reactions people have when such incidents come to light.

She was covering the rally where Congress leaders Raj Babbar and Ahmed Patel were speaking on issues of national interest and protesting against ‘Bharat Bachao Andolan’.

Aneesha told The Hindu that she turned around to see who groped her but couldn’t identify the man amid the crowd,

“After the speeches were over, we were following Mr. Babbar and Mr. Patel towards their car to get a byte. There were dozens of people surrounding them and in that crowd, someone groped me from behind. I turned around and screamed, ‘Who touched me’ but then how much could I shout in the crowd.”

The incident happened around 1.30 p.m. She went to the Parliament Street police station around 3 p.m. Police have registered an FIR based on her complaint. Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B.K. Singh, said,

“We received her complaint and have registered a case under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. We are investigating the case and trying to get CCTV footage to identify the person.”

Aneesha also said that she had gone there to do her job and why should she deal with something like this?

Youth Congress media coordinator Amrish Ranjan Pandey assured that strict action would be taken and they will assist the police in the investigation.

Why should any one have to deal with anything like this? When will all of this stop?
