“Sorry, Didn’t Know It Was Corona Vaccine,” Haryana Hospital Thief Returns Bag With Apology Note!

On Thursday, at 12.44 am, a thief broke into the storeroom of the PPE centre at the Jind Civil Hospital in Haryana. Business Today reports that the stolen items were 1,710 doses of the coronavirus vaccine (1,270 doses of the Covishield and 440 doses of COVAXIN).

However, when the thief found out they were COVID vaccines, he left the bag at a tea stall outside Jind Civil Lines police station with an apology note. 182 doses of Covishield and 440 doses of COVAXIN were recovered from it.

Hindustan Times quoted Jind deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jitender Katkar saying,

“The thief told the old man [tea stall owner] to hand over the packet to a police personnel and said that there is food inside the packet. When the man brought the packet to the cops, they found vaccine doses inside it. We called the doctors and they checked the vials. No vaccine was found missing. The thief had also written a note saying ‘Sorry, I did not know it was corona vaccine’. We are checking the CCTV footage near the tea stall to identify the thief.”

Civil surgeon Dr. Manjeet Singh added, “It seems the thief came to steal Remdesivir, the medicine to treat Covid-19, but took away Covaxin and Covishield.”

Cops have filed a case under Sections 380 and 457 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unidentified thief. It seems that the thief has lines that he doesn’t want to cross or maybe he had a change of heart? What do you think?
