Jhumpa Lahiri, the internationally acclaimed author, is one of my favorite authors. I can read her books like The Namesake, and The Lowland umpteen number of times.
Among a pool of authors, there is one thing that sets Jhumpa Lahiri proudly apart – her books are not based on some superhero stuff, sad tales, no genre-bending. She has one central theme: Families. Family get-togethers, the departures, immigration, death, and estrangement. And therefore, readers tend to identify their family stories with her family stories. And the one thing that I absolutely love about her is the fact that she paints a character’s picture; she has a mastery of detail. Like, when you read a paragraph of ‘Natasha’ putting on her shoes in The Lowland, you know exactly who she is.
