Jaya Kishori, a 29-year-old spiritual preacher and singer, has made a name for herself in India’s spiritual community. She has drawn a large following with her music and teachings on a simpler, more grounded life. With her powerful talks, she often encourages her followers to live with detachment from material wealth and focus on inner peace and spirituality instead.

Recently, however, a video of Jaya Kishori carrying a customised Dior “Book Tote” worth over Rs 2 lakh at an airport has stirred up controversy. This designer accessory, which features a cotton and calfskin lining, contradicts Kishori’s public message of non-materialism.

Social media was filled with posts calling her out on her alleged hypocrisy. Have a look at one of such posts here:
Spiritual preacher Jiya Kishori deleted her video where she was carrying a Dior bag worth ₹ 210000 only
btw she preach Non-Materialism & call herself as Devotee of Lord Krishna.
One more thing : Dior makes bag by using Calf Leather 🐄

Many were quick to point out the irony of a preacher advocating modesty while carrying a luxury bag from one of the world’s most iconic brands. Furthermore, her use of an item with leather accents raised eyebrows.
On one hand, some argue that as a public figure, Kishori should practice what she preaches, especially when promoting values like detachment. On the other, there are those who believe spiritual leaders are also human and have the right to spend their earnings as they please. Have a look:
That’s why we need to check our speakers and choose only genuine ones. If one doesn’t follow what she preach then she’s not right speaker.

Just because their content is religious doesn’t mean they are not influencers, their content is based on what they think will give them most reach and engagement

Most of these ‘holy’ men and women are anything but holy. They’re rolling in riches while their clueless followers soak up every holier-than-thou sermon like it’s pure gold.

Everyone is a cheat. Keeping oneself grounded after becoming a celebrity is the most difficult thing.

It’s so easy to fool people and enjoy the luxuries of the world.A great Start up idea post my retirement. I could become another preacher for my religion and I get to wear great attire, bags and roam the world.

True spirituality gurus and practitioners of India never preached. They lived life in accordance to their beliefs. Ramana Maharishi used lived in a 5Ft cave for 17 years filled with bugs. He meditated about “who am I” in that cave, is a masterpiece in sophisticated philosophy

Is this a simple lifestyle choice or a massive double standard? What do you think?
