Javed Akhtar Didn’t Play Diplomatic When Asked About Naseeruddin’s Comment On Rajesh Khanna

The legendary screenwriter and lyricist, Javed Akhtar was spotted in Bengaluru at a poetry festival yesterday where he obliged the Bangalore Times with a very interesting interview. The most interesting part of the candid conversation was the poet’s views on the recent controversy that involved veteran actor, Naseeruddin Shah’s remark on Rajesh Khanna.

If you’re still not aware, Naseeruddin Shah remarked that mediocracy in Bollywood crept in during the 1970s and Rajesh Khanna, being a major name during that era was a chief influencer behind the decline of movie standards.

When Twinkle Khanna and a few others from the film fraternity protested the legendary actor’s remarks, Naseeruddin was prompt enough to apologize and take his words back.

When Javed Akhtar was asked about his views on the entire controversy, he didn’t really choose to play diplomatic. In fact, he said something quite suggestive about the ace actor’s character. Here’s what he had to say:

Naseeruddin Shah does not like successful people. I have not heard him saying good things about one person who is successful — he has criticized Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

Can’t wait to see Mr. Shah’s reaction to this little observation of Javed Akhtar.
