Single Woman Invents Bulb That Lights Up When People Breakup To Make Herself Feel Better

Christmas and New Year’s time might get lonely for single people. Let’s face it, we’ve all been there where we sat in our pyjamas and ate an unhealthy amount of plum cake while scrolling through uncountable couple pictures wearing Santa hats on Christmas day. It sucks.

However, one Japanese blogger wanted to save herself from the signature holiday season self-loathing for single people and invented a bulb that lights up when someone breaks up, reports News18.

The blogger, Marina Fujiwara, posted an entire blog about how she did it and her reason for doing so. She talks about how she hates Christmas because for a single woman like her, watching zillions of couples going out on dates on that day reminds herself of how lonely she is. However, she explains that she has nothing against happy couples. She only needed a way to make herself feel better.

So, she took a smart-bulb whose brightness and colour can be adjusted via a smartphone. She then connected it to a ‘bridge’ which further connected the bulb to the internet with the help of a LAN cable. She then installed an app called IFTTT which connects web services to smart devices – in this case, the smart-bulb. She went on to create trigger words on Twitter like “break up” or “parted ways”. This would send her a notification every time someone on Twitter posted about their breakup and consequently, would light the lamp.

This entire enterprise of hers is to remind herself that love is temporary. Because couples who continuously post about their love-life usually end up getting separated in a year or so!

Marina went on to post a video of her experiment on Twitter. We find her working on her laptop when suddenly, the bulb lights up. She looks at the bulb, smiles, and gets back on with her work. Accept it, this is low-key evil!

Some might think she is weird. I think she is a savage genius!
